A Walk in th Snowy Woods

Its winter…

& I’m going for a walk in the snowy woods.

            You come too.

 We’ll wear keep-your-head-warm hats,

             hand-clapping-mittens,

            & snow-stomping-boots.

 We’ll see trees without leaves,

            maple, oak, birch, & beech.

Their trunks & branches standing tall in the snow

            stretching high in the sky.

DSCN0003

We’ll see piney green trees holding snow in their branches.

& red berry bushes with bright juicy fruit.

DSCN2856

 We’ll see a squirrel’s nest, high in a tree,

            made messy with leaves.

Maybe we’ll see squirrels, black, brown or gray,

           nibbling on nuts.

DSCN3041

 We’ll see winter birds

            chick-a-dee-dee-dees

            blue jays

            & upside-down nut-hatches

 We’ll come to a stream

            with ice clumps & icicles.

DSCN3080

We might see a deer drink from the stream.

Then we’ll come to the old stoney bridge.

Walking in the Woods

We’ll cross over the bridge

Just to see what’s on the other side…

            More snowy woods.

 But its chilly & late

& we’ll see the sun sinking

 So we’ll turn back home.

to hot chocolate & warm socks.

And leave more of the snowy woods for another day’s walk.

About Diane

a long time lover of all things aquatic...swimming, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling...if it involves water...I'm in. Add traveling, snowshoeing in the winter, gardening in the spring, & lots of fresh air & sunshine. Blend with cooking, crafting, great friends & my Border Collie Zack. Toss in some sweet beekeeping. Mix in a couple of great books, my camera, clean notebook paper, & a cool pen & you pretty much have a picture of me. My friends tell me I should also add..."once a teacher...always a teacher".

I am always amazed how something as simple in nature as a snow covered bridge or sunset breaking thru a snow covered woods can take our breath away….. if we let it. Thanks for sharing those moments.
