Yoga Lessons from Torch Lake
I know some humans practice this thing they call yoga…
Some practice this yoga with their bodies seeking health, or flexibility or a different shape. Some practice with their minds looking for relaxation, or some quiet time. But others practice this yoga with their bodies, & their minds, & their spirits seeking a connection with the energy that flows through all things. I would have them look to me as they practice.
is an old Sanskrit word meaning the “breath of life” or energy. Humans breathe air in & out in a continuous cycle to stay alive & in yoga they use that breath to link them with life’s force, & so it is for me. I watch the molecules of water rise up into the air & return again & again in the summer rains or snows of winter. Energy & connections flow through me endlessly.
Asanas –
आसन
or postures help humans connect the energy inside their bodies with the energies of the universe. My asanas come from the howling winds of a thunderstorm or a blizzard & the gentle breezes of a summer evening. They come from the stillness of an autumn morning & the reflection of the stars on a calm night. My asanas are the ripples skittering under a blue sky & the whitecaps flying along my surface. I feel the energy in them all.
But here is my lesson for you today…
Shavasana –
In human yoga it is called the “corpse pose”. It’s a position of rest & relaxation.
I would have you look to me now for Shavasana. My surface is white & still. My waters are froze & quiet. I am in Shavasana….I rest. Lie down with me a while. Breathe. Feel my calm, quiet, stillness. It will not last, but it is always there. Come with me…I offer you Shavasana…Big Rest.
Om Shanti…Shanti…Shanti
