You may not know this…
but once, a while ago, before Earth was all practical & proper, her colors were kept by a wizard who knew exactly how to place them all across Earth’s lovely face. He kept special pots for the blues of her waters & skies, bright pinks, yellows, & purples for her flowers, & some extra-large pots of the greens for her plants & the leaves of her trees. Being a wondrous wizard, he used his skills & pots to paint Earth in her amazingly beautiful way. Things looked all-together great & Earth was happy.
Alas this wizard had a bit of a weakness when it came to spirits, especially the kind you find at places like Short’s ( www.shortsbrewing.com) , the Jolly Pumpkin, (www.thejollypumpkin,com) , or North Peak (www.northpeak.net) . He was always very careful to lock away his pots when he went after his pints. But as you might have guessed, one night he forgot to be careful & so the pots of paint were not locked up.
This wizard, being a gregarious sort of character went out for a pint & was casually convinced to indulge in several more. Being in such a joyous mood when he returned home he grabbed his brushes & decided to give beautiful Earth a bit of a touch up. If you’d like to see the result…keep scrolling!
Obviously the results were disastrous & at first Earth was outraged! How could she ever show her face again? She ranted & raved while the wizard nursed a mysterious headache. But being the gentle Mother Earth that she was & still is, she finally relented & began to see the humor in it all & to even enjoy her new look. The wizard of course apologized profusely & promised to correct the error immediately. He whisked the leaves away & spent the winter painting all her leaves green again.
But Earth had the last laugh. She decided that each year, she would remind the wizard of his foolishness…& that my fine friends is why the leaves turn colors every fall.
Thank you, Mr. Wizard & Mother Earth! I love the fall colors.
What a great story to go with the fantastic pictures. Thank you Diane…I am missing S. Lake Street.
Hi Meredith, I hope you arrived home safe & sound. I think maybe you took all the good weather with you as it just seems to keep raining! I’m glad you like that goofy story…I don’t know where it came from but it was fun playing with it. Enjoy the rest of the fall season. Stay healthy & safe.
Best regards, Diane
