Let this be a warning to you & all your friends…
Like the song says, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”!
This past summer, a friend of mine, who shall remain nameless, shared one of her beauty secrets. It involved applying hydrogen peroxide to her face with a cotton ball. I think Forrest Gump might say “Beauty is as beauty does”. You see, my friend is beautiful, so my thinking went something like this…She is beautiful & puts hydrogen peroxide on her face…ergo, if I put hydrogen peroxide on my face, I’ll be…you get the drift.
Bought the peroxide & cotton balls, applied it faithfully for several weeks, & waited patiently for the beautifying results. One day while applying my make-up, I actually looked at myself & noticed that my eyebrows looked different. Nothing radical, just a bit lighter. Didn’t really stress much over the fact, just finished the make-up job & continued on my merry way. Three days later, brushing my hair, I noticed the same thing, my eyebrows definitely looked light. At first I thought it might be the sun working its summer magic. After all, as a child summer always turned my hair white blonde. Even briefly considered the fact that these eyebrows might in fact be turning grey! Not a thought I cherished, but still didn’t pay much attention…was running late.
The next morning the proverbial penny dropped. I finally managed to put two & two together. I know you’ve already finished this story…yes I was putting the hydrogen peroxide on face & yes I was putting the peroxide on my eyebrows, hence the change.
But here’s the thing…don’t you think a friend would WARN you NOT to put that stuff on your eyebrows??? Don’t you think she/he would keep your best interests at heart? Isn’t that what a friend would do?
What a great reminder that it doesn’t really matter how old you are or what life experiences you’ve had, a surprise could be waiting just around the corner. In reality every time I see hydrogen peroxide now my friend comes to mind & I crack up. It’s hard to come to grips with the fact that I could do something so incredibly dumb however it’s become one more memory in a long line of friend memories. Isn’t that what friendship’s all about…creating endless great memories that make you can laugh or cry as the years pass.
So today’s blog is dedicated to all my friends & yours. It comes with hugs, smiles, & thanks for making all of our lives so much richer. Do yourself a favor today, touch base with a friend & share an old memory…or begin a new one. An old Girl Scout song says,” Make new friend, but keep the old. One is silver & the other’s Gold”.
Me…I’m off to share some hydrogen peroxide with these girls I know!!!!
