!#^@*(*!#

So you work to learn a new computer skill…

& at first you struggle then you begin to think you understand & finally you become overconfident. Comes the day you create a lovely new blog & the Gods or goddesses of the tech world strike! You click a wrong button & the whole thing just disappears into thin air (or wherever the Gods see fit).

So I’ve deleted all the expletives that I needed here to express my frustration & am left with only this…

RATS!!!

My apologies will have to suffice for today…too morose to continue…

I’m off to drown my sorrows…

Don't drink the water

For Sale…Antiques & Cottage Decor

Do you need the perfect gift or an unusual piece to finish a room?

Do you believe that “One man’s trash….”?

Are you free this weekend?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then the best place for you this weekend is the Alden Depot.

Alden-05

Friends, neighbors, collectors, & “pickers” will congregate this weekend to browse, haggle, & carry home some of the treasures from the Helena Township Historical Society’s Antique & Cottage decor Sale. Even though that’s a mouthful, this is the 11th year for the sale/fund-raiser.

Here’s how it works…

This could be your last best chance to clean out the cupboard or closet that got overlooked in your spring cleaning extravaganza. If you have fabulous things to sell, go to the Alden Depot Wednesday, Thursday or Friday between 9:00 & 11:00. Pick up a tag for each item you have to sell. The tags have two halves so go home, fill out both halves but don’t tear them apart.  Attach a tag to each of  your items. The items you intend to sell need to be priced at $10.00 or more & keep in mind when setting your prices, that the Historical Society receives 20%. The money the Society makes from the sale goes directly to the Alden Depot so the whole community benefits in the long run. You’ll need to put your phone number on the tags as well so if people want to haggle, they can simply call you.

Saturday morning, take your treasures to the Depot between 8:00 a.m. & 10:00 am. The lovely folks from the HTHS will gladly help you display your stuff. You don’t have to be present for the entire two-day event, but you should plan on helping out for 3 or 4 hours. Helping out is a good thing because you are almost certain to  find something at the sale that you probably can’t live without.

For Shoppers, this is the best part…

The sale officially starts Saturday at 10:00 a.m.  Take my word for it, you want to be there at 9:59! You can search for treasures, pick up an eclectic trinket, chat with your friends & neighbors, or just enjoy the fresh air by the lake. Treasure hunting doesn’t get any better than this. The sale runs both Saturday & Sunday from 10:00 to 4:00.

In the tragic event your items don’t sell, the Historical Society is asking that you pick them up Sunday at 4:00. You need to turn in your unsold tags.  You will receive an envelope in the mail with your loot. Don’t be afraid to help with the tear-down & clean up.   The more the merrier!!!

Come be part of the Helena Township Historical Society’s Antique & Cottage Decor Sale!

(I love saying that!!!)

Me…I’m off to find my shopping cart…

Warning!!!

If you don’t like reading, just stop here & click somewhere else…

This summer I decided to reread my 4 favorite childhood books.

Harold & the Purple Crayon is first up on the list. If you like the color purple, or you like drawing, this book is for you. It’s the first book I remember loving & obsessively reading over & over again. Harold uses his purple crayon (my favorite color back then) to draw his very own personal world. Creativity just doesn’t get much better than that!

Harper Collins 1955

My first grade teacher, Mrs. Simcox captured me with the second book on the list, Winnie the Pooh. Seated on the rug in a circle by her feet, I fell in love with the big yellow bear & Eeyore. What’s not to like about a kid with an optimistic critter friend who loves honey?

Pippi Longstockings is next. Freckles, fire-engine red pigtails, & a pet monkey named Mr. Nelson…how cool is that?

Last but not least, East of the Sun & West of the Moon.

All of these stories have been updated, revised, republished, and “movied”, but here’s the update I like the best….its Amanda Clarke’s version of East of the Sun…

So there you have it. I’m pretty sure it won’t take me long to finish this list so here’s where you come in…

I’m looking for other books to add to my Summer Reading List. Several of you have asked about sharing book suggestions, so I’m willing to put them together as an addition to this blog. Put on your thinking cap & give me a title of a book…something you’ve read or are reading, something someone else suggested or something you’ve always wanted to read…you get the picture. I’ll start a list & keep it up. You can leave a comment below or email me at dlverploegh@gmail.com.

Thanks in advance!

Me…I’m off to enjoy a book!

Sometimes all you need is a good book & a friend!
